Sunday December 21, 2008 thought for the day

THE CHRIST OF CHRISTMAS
Here are my thoughts for today-
1-When God shows mercy to you, you can't be anything but grateful-
2-Most people in the Bible that God blessed and used were less than "perfect" people-
3-If you want to know God, get to know Jesus-
4-Success is more a function of consistent common sense than it is of genius-
5-Where we start is not as important as where we finish-

Strange thought-You will never have true friends if you are afraid of making enemies-

I've learned-The best thing to put on your face is a smile-

5 things I want to know
1-Did the angelic choir announce Jesus birth only to the shepherds?
2-Why were the shepherds told of the birth of the "lamb of God"?
3-Why didn't God announce to the whole world that the savior and redeemer had come?
4-Why was Jesus's birth held in secrecy from the multitudes?
5-How did the shepherds know where to find the manger that held the baby Jesus?

Scripture for today-After the wise men heard the king, they left. The star they had seen in the east went before them until it stopped above the place where the child was. When the wise men saw the star, they were filled with joy. They came to the house where the child was and saw him with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. They opened their gifts and gave him treasures of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. But God warned the wise men in a dream not to go back to Herod, so they returned to their own country a different way. Matthew 2:9-12

Saturday December 20, 2008 thought for the day

A PRETTY NATIVITY SCENE
Here are my thoughts for today-
1-Living a life that matters doesn't happen by accident-it is not a matter of circumstances but of choice, so choose a life that matters-
2-If you're not thankful for little things you won't be thankful for much-
3-Whether we are on the mountain top or down in the valley, God is still God-
4-Richness is a state of mind, not how much money you have-
5-People who are least concerned about making an impression are usually free from depression-

Strange thought-there are millions of excuses for failure but not a single reason-

I've learned-having a lot of money makes you wealthy, not rich-having no money makes you broke, not poor-

5 things I want to know
1-Why did the star lead the Magi to Jerusalem and not directly to Bethlehem?
2-Why didn't King Herod send his own people to find the new "King of the Jews"?
3-Why weren't the Jews looking for the messiah in Bethlehem?
4-If the shepherds came to the manger, who watched the sheep?
5-How many shepherds actually came to the manger?

Scripture for today-Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea during the time when Herod was king. When Jesus was born, some wise men from the east came to Jerusalem. They asked, "Where is the baby who was born to be the King of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him". When Herod heard this, he was troubled, as well as all the people of Jerusalem. Herod called a meeting of all the leading priests and teachers of the law and asked them where the Christ would be born. Matthew 2:1-4

Friday December 19, 2008 thought for the day

"THE BIRTH"!!!!!
Here are my thoughts for today-
1-What matters is not how many people you know but how many will feel a lasting loss when you are gone-
2-What matters is every act of integrity, compassion, couage or sacrifice that enriched or encouraged others to follow your example-
3-What matters is how long you will be remembered by whom and for what-
4-What matters is what road you choose to travel for it will determine where you go-
5-What matters is what or who you worship for it will determine your destiny-

Strange thought-December is the month when kids begin to discuss what to get dad for Christmas--some insist on a shirt, others a pair of sox, and the argument usually ends in a tie-

I've learned-the heart of Christmas is not the presents you give, but the love you share-

5 things I want to know
1-Why did Jesus live 33 years--why not more or less?
2-Hanging on the cross, how could Jesus know he was thirsty when he was in so much pain?
3-Why did Jesus have to suffer and die alone on the cross without any heavenly help?
4-Was Jesus crucifixion any more physically painful than that of the two thieves hanging nearby?
5-Why didn't Jesus shorten the time of his crucifixion?

Scripture for today-Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.” Luke 2:13-14 (NIV)

A PRETTY MANGER SCENE PICTURE

2-What matters is not what you got but what you gave-
3-What matters is not your success but your significance-
4-What matters is not what you learned but what you taught-
5-What matters is not your competence but your character-

Strange thought-If I never met you, I wouldn't like you--if I didn't like you I wouldn't love you---if I didn't love you I wouldn't miss you--but I did,I do and I will-

I've learned-the difference between failure and success is mind set-

5 things I want to know
1-How do we acknowledge God "in all our ways"?
2-How is it possible that when "a man's ways are pleasing to God, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him"?
3-When you are living in obedience to God, does it not often stir up conflict in others?
4-Are all the proverb statements generally true or are they absolutely true?
5-How do we "cast all our anxieties" on the Lord?

Scripture for today-God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT)

1-Life is not how long you live but how you make the journey-
2-Perseverance is not one long race but many short ones-
3-It is not what you gather but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived-
4-Only God knows how often he allows us to be apart of a divine moment when we're completely unaware of the significance-
5-What you leave behind is not what is engraved on stone monuments but what is woven into the lives of others-

Strange thought-if your parents never had any children, chances are you won't either-

I've learned-always borrow money from a pessimist for they don't expect to be paid back-

5 things I want to know
1-Why did God say that where Moses was standing by the burning bush was holy ground?
2-Can you ever talk God out of his plan?
3-Is it difficult to hear God speak to you?
4-What does it mean to "trust God with all your heart"?
5-What does it mean "in all your ways acknowledge Him"?

Scripture for today-He saved us and he called us to be his own people, not because of what we have done, but because of his own purpose and grace. 2 Timothy 1:9 (TEV)

I've learned-One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it is such a nice change from being young-

5 things I want to know
1-Which is more important, our faithfulness at church, at work or at home?
2-Can Christians separate their life into two segments-sacred and secular?
