Wednesday October 2, 2013 thought for the day

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS FOR TODAY
1-"Forgive me" is not a magic phrase that forces God to do what we want him to do-
2-All of God's punishment is with a purpose-
3-In God's love for us, there often is discipline for disobedience, but God never severs the relationship-
4-God's punishment always has a desired effect--repentance, forgiveness and restoration-
5-God can't forgive those who refuse to repent of their sins-

STRANGE THOUGHT-We could learn a lot from crayons-some are sharp, some are dull, some have weird names, all are different colors but they all have to live in the same box-

I'VE LEARNED-Angels exist, but occasionally, since they don't all have wings, we call them friends-

DID YOU KNOW-Sturgeon fish can live as long as one hundred years-

5 THINGS  I WANT TO KNOW
1-Why does God permit storms in our lives after we get on his boat?
2-With Jesus in the boat with the disciples, did they really believe they would perish?
3-Why did Jesus speak more often of "not being afraid" than he did about loving God and neighbors?
4-When is fear in and of itself a sin?
5-Was Jesus critical of the fearful disciples in the boat with him when the storm came upon them?

BIBLE TRIVIA-Who did the Sanhedrin put in jail for disturbing the peace?
Today's answer-Peter and John   Acts 4:1-4

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY    Acts 20:7-12
On the first day of the week,[a] we all met together to break bread,[b] and Paul spoke to the group. Because he was planning to leave the next day, he kept on talking until midnight. We were all together in a room upstairs, and there were many lamps in the room. A young man named Eutychus was sitting in the window. As Paul continued talking, Eutychus was falling into a deep sleep. Finally, he went sound asleep and fell to the ground from the third floor. When they picked him up, he was dead. 10 Paul went down to Eutychus, knelt down, and put his arms around him. He said, “Don’t worry. He is alive now.” 11 Then Paul went upstairs again, broke bread, and ate. He spoke to them a long time, until it was early morning, and then he left. 12 They took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted.

Footnotes:

  1. 20:7 first day of the week Sunday, which for Jews began at sunset on our Saturday. But if in this part of Asia a different system of time was used, then the meeting was on our Sunday night.
  2. 20:7 break bread Probably the Lord’s Supper, the special meal that Jesus told his followers to eat to remember him (Luke 22:14–20).
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying man Father God, Your almighty power is balanced with Your tender compassion toward all of creation. It is because of Your abundant mercies that we are not consumed or utterly forsaken. You provide exceedingly more than the bare essentials for our earthly dwelling. Your abiding presence provides faithfulness, stability, and expectant hope for every challenge we face. Thank You for clothing us with dignity, providing us with salvation and for abiding with us day in and day out. Amen.
