1-The followers of Jesus called themselves "the people of the way"

2-The stoning death of Stephen sparked a round of persecution of Jesus' followers in Jerusalem and sent many of them fleeing to surrounding cities in Syria-

3-Lydia, Phoebe and Priscilla are not as well known as Peter and Paul, but they were crucial players in the life of the early church-

4-In the face of deadly persecution by Jewish and Roman authorities, the earliest followers of Jesus were basically outlawed cults until emperor Constantine converted

  in  313CE and Christianity became Rome's dominant religion-

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

1-Though Pilate turned Jesus over to the Jewish crowd, his crucifixion was clearly carried out by Roman soldiers-

2-Many first century Jews died, just like Jesus on a cross, but not at the hands of other Jews.  Crucifixion was not a Jewish form of execution.  It was exclusive to the Romans as an extreme penalty- 

3-If Jesus was not God, he had nothing to offer mankind-

4-Almost from the very beginning, sects like the Gnostics held views that separated them completely from the orthodox church views-

5-Jesus' earliest followers faced persecution and death either at the hands of Jewish authorities or the Roman government-

1-The heart of the gospel is the truth that God accepts us with no conditions whatever when we put our trust in the atoning sacrificial death of his son Jesus-

2-Commitment is healthiest when it is not without doubt, but in spite of doubt-

3-Doubt is often a sign that your faith has a pulse, that it is alive and well, exploring and searching-

4-You can't stand on blind faith, you must have a "knowing" faith and that comes from believing whole heartily what God's word promises-

5-The great danger is not that we will renounce our faith but rather that we become so distracted and preoccupied that we settle for a mediocre version of it-

Just because I didn't start the conversation doesn't mean I'm not dying to speak with you-

Failure is a temporary condition.  Giving up is what makes it permanent-

1-A true christian is a living sermon, whether or not they preach a word-

2-Kindness has converted more sinners than zeal, eloquence or learning-

3-It is not hypocritical to put on a happy face even when you don't feel happy.  It is a sign of inner strength and maturity-

4-If you don't enjoy getting up and going to work, returning home for a meal with your family, then chances are that you are not going to be very happy-

5-Faith is a reasoning trust which reckons thoughtfully and confidently in the trust worthiness of God-

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

1-Mercy means that God does not give us what we do deserve, grace means that he gives us what we do not deserve-

2-There are moments in life when we need God to be a heavenly father in whose lap we can crawl up on for comfort and safety.  But at other moments we need him to be a rock for us-

3-When we are God's child, we know he loved us first, before we lived, before we sinned and before we asked him for forgiveness-

4-God had only one son who didn't sin, but he never had any who never suffered-

5-You can preach a better sermon with your life than with your lips-

 

STRANGE THOUGHT

My next job was in a muffler factory but I had to quit, it was too exhausting-

It is wise to learn from experience, it is wiser to learn from the experience of others-

5-Circumstances often dictate our level of joy, peace and contentment with life-

Humility is not denying your strengths, it is being honest about your weaknesses-

4-Without the proper Biblical motivation, your spiritual energy for living a life that honors Jesus will wane-

5-The more intensely we pursue our own happiness the more elusive it seems to become-

1-It is better to walk alone than with a crowd going in the wrong direction-

2-Be someone that makes you happy-

3-Never lose hope for you never know what tomorrow may bring-

4-One of the hardest decisions you'll ever have to make in life is choosing whether to walk away or try harder-

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

1-Jesus followers are not to be childish, but childlike with trusting and sincere hearts-

2-Sin affects more than our hands, it affects our mind and heart also-

3-Because God has forgiven all our sins, we should not withhold forgiveness from others-

4-When we don't forgive others, we are setting ourselves outside and above Jesus' law of love-

5-We cannot love God with all our hearts and yet keep our money ourselves.  Loving God totally means using our money in ways that pleases him-

3-The Christian's destiny is secure, but Jesus will look at how they handled gifts, opportunities and responsibilities in order to determine their heavenly rewards-

4-Jesus is more than just a good leader, a good example, a good influence or a great prophet.  He is the son of God-

5-It is the power of God , not our faith that moves mountains, but faith must be present to do so-

5-This life is the introduction to eternity.  But how we live this brief span, however, determines our eternal state-
