2 Peter 1:3-8   Jesus has the power of God, by which he has given us everything we need to live and to serve God. We have these things because we know him. Jesus called us by his glory and goodness. Through these he gave us the very great and precious promises. With these gifts you can share in God’s nature, and the world will not ruin you with its evil desires. Because you have these blessings, do your best to add these things to your lives: to your faith, add goodness; and to your goodness, add knowledge; and to your knowledge, add self-control; and to your self-control, add patience; and to your patience, add service for God; and to your service for God, add kindness for your brothers and sisters in Christ; and to this kindness, add love. If all these things are in you and are growing, they will help you to be useful and productive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Sunday October 8, 2017 thought for the day

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY
1-Jesus is the creator of life and his life brings light to mankind.  In his light we see ourselves as we really are (sinners in need of a savior)-
2-Christians are not the source of God's light, we merely reflect that light-
3-The word witness indicates our role as reflectors of Jesus' light-
4-All who welcome Jesus as Lord and Savior of their lives are reborn spiritually, receiving new life from God-
5-Jesus death satisfied God's requirement for the removal and forgiveness of sins-

STRANGE THOUGHT
For a head cold use a vaporizer to spray the nose until it drops into your throat-

I'VE LEARNED
When a poor person dies of hunger, it has not happened because God did not take care of them.  It happened because you and I didn't give them what they needed-

DID YOU KNOW
Grasshoppers have white blood-

5 THINGS I WANT TO KNOW
1-We say "don't look at us look at Jesus".  Are we worried what people would find if our lives were scrutinized?
2-Will we as Christians always live up to the standards of Jesus?  If not, have we sinned by falling short?
3-Could the world survive without all the humanitarian services the church does in Jesus name?
4-What would the world be like if the Holy Spirit was withdrawn from it?
5-Will the Holy Spirit ever be withdrawn from the world?

BIBLE TRIVIA
Matthew 20:20 states that the mother of James and John requested that her sons be appointed to high office in the coming kingdom.  In Mark 10:35, who made the request?
Answer for today      James and John

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY
John 14:25-27   “I have told you all these things while I am with you. 26 But the Helper will teach you everything and will cause you to remember all that I told you. This Helper is the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name.27 “I leave you peace; my peace I give you. I do not give it to you as the world does. So don’t let your hearts be troubled or afraid.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father, make me aware of your presence so that fear and worry don't control me-

I WISH YOU LOVE IN YOUR HEART-PEACE IN YOUR SOUL- JOY IN YOUR LIFE-ALWAYS-

Saturday October 7, 2017 thought for the day

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

1- What Jesus taught and what he did are tied inseparably to who he is-
2-Although Jesus took upon himself full humanity and lived as a man, he never ceased to be the eternal God who has always existed, the creator and sustainer of all things and the source of eternal life-
3-To Jewish readers, "the Word was God" was blasphemous.  To Greek readers "the word became flesh" was unthinkable.  To John, this new understanding of the "word" was gospel, the good news of Jesus-
4-Life is ironic.  It takes sadness to know happiness, noise to appreciate silence, and absence to value presence-
5-If you try to live without God, you will be abandoning the purpose for which you were made-

STRANGE THOUGHT
For a dog bite, put the dog away for several days.  If it has not recovered by then, put it to sleep-

I'VE LEARNED
By changing our own negative patterns, we can change a great many of the circumstances we are in-

DID YOU KNOW
The original name for butterfly was the "flutterby"-

5 THINGS I WANT TO KNOW
1-Do Christians tend to pass off their sins as mistakes?
2-How and why is it more blessed to give than to receive?
3- Is it appropriate for the church to confess its sins of the past?
4-What is the main stumbling block keeping people from becoming Christians?
5-Christianity spread very rapidly in its early days yet today has only minimal growth.  Why is this so?

BIBLE TRIVIA
In Matthew 8, the maniac lives in Gadara.  In Luke 8 and Mark 5, where does he live? (for this question, check a modern translation, not the KJV)?
Answer for today        Gerasa

SCRIPTURE FOR THE DAY
Matthew 7:7-10   Ask, and God will give to you. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will open for you. Yes, everyone who asks will receive. Everyone who searches will find. And everyone who knocks will have the door opened.“If your children ask for bread, which of you would give them a stone? 10 Or if your children ask for a fish, would you give them a snake?

PRAYER FOR THE DAY

Father, thank you that you don't grow tired of our prayers.  Help me to keep praying and grace to accept the purpose you are accomplishing when life is difficult-

TODAY WILL NEVER COME AGAIN. BE A BESSING, BE A FRIEND, ENCOURAGE SOMEONE, TAKE TIME TO CARE. LET YOUR WORDS AND ACTIONS HEAL AND NOT WOUND-
