PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying manFather, we are grateful for the men and women who are willing to lay down their lives to protect our freedoms here in the United States. We are indebted to them for their daily sacrifice and we pray for their safekeeping, including godly chaplains who serve as spiritual leaders among them. We also consider our many spiritual warriors who have taken on added responsibility and assumed difficult duties leading us, as believers, to victory in this war against sin and strife, as we march in the army of the Lord. Bless these who have poured themselves into our lives and set for us an example to follow; in their conversation, their lifestyle, their faith, their doctrine and in their purity. We honor and bless the previous generation who passed onto us the Living Water and Bread of Life. We now extend the same message to our present generation, for with our mouths we make known Your faithfulness to all generations. Amen.

The followers got into a boat and started across the lake to Capernaum. 18 By now a strong wind was blowing, and the waves on the lake were getting bigger. 19 When they had rowed the boat about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the water, coming toward the boat. The followers were afraid, 20 but Jesus said to them, “It is I. Do not be afraid.” 21 Then they were glad to take him into the boat. At once the boat came to land at the place where they wanted to go.

PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying manFather, help us to be moved by the plight of those who are prepared to suffer and even lay down their lives for the sake of Christ. We remember them in our prayers and remember them as warriors of the faith, who for the joy set before them endured the suffering, shame and agony of their tormentors. As they endured the humiliation they also overcame by the blood of the Lamb. Many of them have received the crown of life in heaven that is rewarded to those martyred for their faith.  On Coronation Day when we all gather in heaven we look forward to enjoying earnest fellowship with these tried and true saints of our faith who did not give up meeting together to worship You.  Keep us faithful when tested by fire, we pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Yesterday's answer-Galatians  2:4

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY    John 6:10-15
10 Jesus said, “Tell the people to sit down.” There was plenty of grass there, and about five thousand men sat down there. 11 Then Jesus took the loaves of bread, thanked God for them, and gave them to the people who were sitting there. He did the same with the fish, giving as much as the people wanted.
12 When they had all had enough to eat, Jesus said to his followers, “Gather the leftover pieces of fish and bread so that nothing is wasted.” 13 So they gathered up the pieces and filled twelve baskets with the pieces left from the five barley loaves.
14 When the people saw this miracle that Jesus did, they said, “He must truly be the Prophet[a] who is coming into the world.”
15 Jesus knew that the people planned to come and take him by force and make him their king, so he left and went into the hills alone.

  1. John 6:14 Prophet They probably meant the prophet that God told Moses he would send (Deuteronomy 18:15–19).
PRAYER FOR TODAY

Praying man
Father, we read of those in the Bible from generations long ago who lived upright and godly lives. They were discerning and wise, devoted in their duties such as Anna and Simeon who served in the temple. So many serve as examples of those who walked in Your ways from their youth and remained faithful through their golden years.  Some of their choices brought about multiple blessings and other choices brought forth great sacrifice, persecution, or even death. We also read of those who were proud and foolish, thinking only of themselves, such as Samson, Ananias and Sapphira or Demetrius the Silversmith. They also serve as warnings to us. We highly esteem those older than us, many whose self-worth is based on productivity and accomplishment, which makes them feel no longer useful in their senior years. Yet their example of wisdom, maturity, and perseverance, especially as they experience the pains and limitations that come with aging, serve as a tremendous example for those of us who will soon follow in their steps. It’s in the name of Jesus that we pray for our senior friends. Amen.

2-Was Jairus interested in being a Jesus follower or only hoping to secure help for his sick daughter?
3-Why did the woman with a blood issue feel she could be healed if she could just touch Jesus' garment?
4-From where did the woman who touched Jesus' garment get such great faith?
5-Today, how do we get the same great faith as the woman with a blood issue who touched Jesus' garment?

BIBLE TRIVIA-What epistle warns against people sent in to "spy out our liberty"?
Yesterday's answer-Joshua   2:1

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY     John 6:1-9
After this, Jesus went across Lake Galilee (or, Lake Tiberias). Many people followed him because they saw the miracles he did to heal the sick. Jesus went up on a hill and sat down there with his followers. It was almost the time for the Jewish Passover Feast.
When Jesus looked up and saw a large crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where can we buy enough bread for all these people to eat?” (Jesus asked Philip this question to test him, because Jesus already knew what he planned to do.)
Philip answered, “Someone would have to work almost a year to buy enough bread for each person to have only a little piece.”
Another one of his followers, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said, “Here is a boy with five loaves of barley bread and two little fish, but that is not enough for so many people.”

PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying manFather, I lift up to You not only my heart from which my love for You is firmly established, but I also lift up to You my soul so that You will fill it with spiritual nourishment and unwavering hope. When my spirit grows faint within me and my heart is dismayed I am strengthened and encouraged as I meditate on all Your works and consider what Your hands have done. I trust You to be what You have been over the eons of time; a faithful, powerful, loving, and redemptive God who rescues me from danger and preserves my life for eternity. I spread out my hands to You as I thirst for You like a parched land. Fill my cup, Lord, fill it up and make me wholly useful for Your kingdom, most especially in these troubled times. It is in Jesus’ name that I pray. Amen.

I WISH YOU LOVE IN YOUR HEART.....PEACE IN YOUR SOUL.....AND JOY IN YOUR LIFE.....ALWAYS!!!

Saturday November 10, 2011 thought for today

I'VE LEARNED-Don't let bitterness steal your sweetness-

5 THINGS I WANT TO KNOW

2-Was Jesus ever fearful?
3-Did Jesus ever stay where he was not wanted
4-Are the people of today any different from the people of Jesus' day that didn't believe in who he was?
5-Why didn't Jesus want the healed demon possessed man from Gadera to go with hi ministering but instead to go back to his family-
BIBLE TRIVIA-Who sent two spies to Jericho?
Yesterday's answer-Hushai   2 Samuel 15:32-37
SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY   John 5:41-47
41 “I don’t need praise from people. 42 But I know you—I know that you don’t have God’s love in you. 43 I have come from my Father and speak for him, but you don’t accept me. But when another person comes, speaking only for himself, you will accept him. 44 You try to get praise from each other, but you do not try to get the praise that comes from the only God. So how can you believe? 45 Don’t think that I will stand before the Father and say you are wrong. The one who says you are wrong is Moses, the one you hoped would save you. 46 If you really believed Moses, you would believe me, because Moses wrote about me. 47 But if you don’t believe what Moses wrote, how can you believe what I say?”
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying manFather, the accolades, merits, relationships and physical treasures I’ve accumulated in this life are but rubbish when compared to the all surpassing gift of knowing You, receiving Your forgiveness, and experiencing Your redemptive love. Because I am risen with Christ I want to place my affections on things above rather than things on this earth where I am so easily distracted from  that which really matters and draws me closer to Your throne. To know You, Father, is to know unfathomable peace and joy beyond measure. I thank You through Christ Jesus my Lord. Amen.

3-Humility is having a right estimate of yourself-

BIBLE TRIVIA-What counselor of Absalom was actually a spy for David?
Yesterday's answer-Dan    Judges 18:2-28

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY      John 5:36-40
36 “But I have a proof about myself that is greater than that of John. The things I do, which are the things my Father gave me to do, prove that the Father sent me.37 And the Father himself who sent me has given proof about me. You have never heard his voice or seen what he looks like. 38 His teaching does not live in you, because you don’t believe in the One the Father sent.39 You carefully study the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. They do in fact tell about me,40 but you refuse to come to me to have that life.

PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying manHeavenly Father, when those aboard the ship in Acts 27 were looking at the gloomy forecast that appeared for many days their hopes diminished day by day. So often that’s what leads us to defeat; we fear the raging storm and the damage it will do, instead of looking to the One who controls the wind and waves. We consider those suffering as a result of Hurricane Sandy, reminding us that You are a God of the impossible, bringing hope in the midst of devastation, restoration in the midst of loss. We pray that there will be Christian believers who will bring the life-saving message of Jesus Christ to the hearts of the suffering and bring a message of hope, not based on what they see, but in the hope we have through the Holy Spirit as we trust in You. Amen.

Thursday November 8, 2012 thought for the day

BIBLE TRIVIA-What tribe sent out five spies to check out its land?
Yesterday's answer-David     1 Samuel 26:3-4

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY   John 5:30-35
30 “I can do nothing alone. I judge only the way I am told, so my judgment is fair. I don’t try to please myself, but I try to please the One who sent me.
31 “If only I tell people about myself, what I say is not true. 32 But there is another who tells about me, and I know that the things he says about me are true.
33 “You have sent people to John, and he has told you the truth. 34 It is not that I need what humans say; I tell you this so you can be saved. 35 John was like a burning and shining lamp, and you were happy to enjoy his light for a while.

PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying manMerciful Father, we confess that we can be impatient and judgmental toward those who reject You. We’ve come to realize that we can’t live without You but the unbeliever feels he or she has no need for You.  It seems we’re worlds apart in our outlook.   Speak to our hearts about applying Your mercy to those who are not of the faith. They do not see through eyes of faith, but are blinded to spiritual truth.  While we must embrace the sinner in mercy and love, we must never embrace or endorse the sin. The allurement to sin is always before us, so we ask You to keep us safe. Do not let us deceive ourselves, but show us how to set up safeguards, while reaching out to those who are in sin’s entrapment.  Father, we don’t want to be complacent but want to be spiritually burdened with the critical need of reaching out to “the penitent child” who needs You.  In the name of Jesus we pray.  Amen.

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY   John 5:24-29
24 "I tell you the truth, whoever hears what I say and believes in the One who sent me has eternal life. That person will not be judged guilty but has already left death and entered life. 25 I tell you the truth, the time is coming and is already here when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will have life.26 Life comes from the Father himself, and he has allowed the Son to have life in himself as well. 27 And the Father has given the Son the approval to judge, because he is the Son of Man. 28 Don't be surprised at this: A time is coming when all who are dead and in their graves will hear his voice. 29 Then they will come out of their graves. Those who did good will rise and have life forever, but those who did evil will rise to be judged guilty.

PS-Can anyone explain verse 25 to me??

PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, You assure us time and again of Your compassionate love through Your Word, through fellow believers, through extraordinary intervention and whatever other means You ordain. You respond to our needs faithfully, but we confess that our doubts begin when Your voice is silent about particular ongoing needs we’re dealing with. In these instances we begin to wonder, do You really do care. But we desire to prove our faith to be genuine by trusting You even when we cannot see Your hand at work. Help us to persevere in prayer as we seek to understand Your overall plan in these troubling matters. And when we don’t understand Your plan help us to trust You when our faith is being tested, because faith that cannot be tested is faith that cannot be trusted. Amen.

4-How is it possible for a person to have a legion of demons possess him?
5-Did the demon possessed man think he could scare and intimidate Jesus?

BIBLE TRIVIA-How many spies did Moses send into Canaan?
Yesterday's answer-The chief priests and scribes   Luke 20:20

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY   John 5:19-23
19 But Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing alone. The Son does only what he sees the Father doing, because the Son does whatever the Father does. 20 The Father loves the Son and shows the Son all the things he himself does. But the Father will show the Son even greater things than this so that you can all be amazed.21 Just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to those he wants to.22 In fact, the Father judges no one, but he has given the Son power to do all the judging 23 so that all people will honor the Son as much as they honor the Father. Anyone who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying manFather, You have given to some the spiritual gift of discernment, and for others it’s the years of reading the Scriptures, listening to godly teaching and walking in obedience to You that discernment has characterized our faith journey. We want to be observant, understanding, and discerning about our times, so that we are prepared to do battle with the enemy and show others the way to eternal life. Amen.

I WISH YOU A DAY FILLED WITH LOVE, LAUGHTER, FORGIVENESS AND THANKSGIVING-

Monday November 5, 2012 thought for the day

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS FOR TODAY
1-The earnest prayer of a righteous man has great reward-
2-When you say "Thy kingdom come" you are inviting Jesus to be present in all areas of your life-
3-Worship is the only valid response to answered prayer-
4-The heart of the human problem is the heart of the human-
5-God loves, He gave, we believe, we live-

STRANGE THOUGHT-Sometimes God has to turn your life upside down so that you can live it right side up-

I'VE LEARNED-It is your road and yours alone.  Others may walk it with you but no one can walk it for you-

DID YOU KNOW-Carolyn Shoemaker has discovered 32 comets and approximately 300 asteroids-

5 THINGS I WANT TO KNOW
1-Should the disciples in the boat with Jesus not have been frightened and worried about the storm they were in?
2-Did Jesus have everything under control during the storm while he was fast asleep in the boat?
3-When Jesus told the storm to be still and it was, was it perfect divine timing or did Jesus actually have divine power over nature?
4-In the calming of the sea while in a boat with Jesus, were the disciples in awe of Jesus power or fearful of it?
5-Was the calming of the sea too much for the disciples to understand?

BIBLE TRIVIA-Who sent spies to watch Jesus?
Yesterday's answer-Levi (or Matthew)    Luke 5:29-32

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY    John 5:14-18
14 Later, Jesus found the man at the Temple and said to him, "See, you are well now. Stop sinning so that something worse does not happen to you."
15 Then the man left and told his people that Jesus was the one who had made him well.
16 Because Jesus was doing this on the Sabbath day, some evil people began to persecute him. 17 But Jesus said to them, "My Father never stops working, and so I keep working, too."
18 This made them try still harder to kill him. They said, "First Jesus was breaking the law about the Sabbath day. Now he says that God is his own Father, making himself equal with God!"

PRAYER FOR THE DAY
Praying manJesus, You forewarned us that we would undergo persecution if we choose to follow You. But we’re also promised that we will receive the crown of life as we hold firmly to the faith. Ours is not a journey for the faint of heart, but a journey where we endure more than just a moment, more than just for a day. We endure to the end so that we who withstand the test will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him. Keep us trusting and faithful until that day. In Your name we pray. Amen.

GREATLY BLESSED, HIGHLY FAVORED, IMPERFECT BUT FORGIVEN CHILD OF GOD-
