Monday September 10, 2012 thought for the day

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS FOR TODAY
1-You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift-
2-You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down-
3-You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred-
4-You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence-
5-No matter what you do, you cannot stop the aging process-

STRANGE THOUGHT-I'm not too handy with tools.  I once caught my finger in a screwdriver-

I'VE LEARNED-Under everyone's hard shell, is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved-

DID YOU KNOW-A hockey puck is one inch thick-

5 THINGS I WANT TO KNOW
1-How do you determine what parts of the Bible are to be taken literally and those that are not?
2-Since the Bible has been translated and retranslated many times, how much of the original writings meaning would have been lost?
3-If our bodies are to be resurrected, how can a cremated body be done so?
4-Why is the King James version of the Bible considered the "authorized version"?
5-Is the Christian life more than just living by faith?

BIBLE TRIVIA-Who persuaded the clever woman of Tekoa to pretend to be a widow in order to play on David's sympathy?
Yesterday's answer-Jacob  Genesis 27:1-29

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY      Matthew 27:32-40
32 As the soldiers were going out of the city with Jesus, they forced a man from Cyrene, named Simon, to carry the cross for Jesus.33 They all came to the place called Golgotha, which means the Place of the Skull.34 The soldiers gave Jesus wine mixed with gall[a] to drink. He tasted the wine but refused to drink it. 35 When the soldiers had crucified him, they threw lots to decide who would get his clothes.[b] 36 The soldiers sat there and continued watching him.37 They put a sign above Jesus' head with a charge against him. It said: this is Jesus, the king of the Jews.38 Two robbers were crucified beside Jesus, one on the right and the other on the left.39 People walked by and insulted Jesus and shook their heads,40saying, "You said you could destroy the Temple and build it again in three days. So save yourself! Come down from that cross if you are really the Son of God!"
Footnotes: Matthew 27:34 gall Probably a drink of wine mixed with drugs to help a person feel less pain.
  1. Matthew 27:35 clothes Some Greek copies continue, "So what God said through the prophet came true, 'They divided my clothes among them, and they threw lots for my clothing.' " See Psalm 22:18.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying manFather God, we thank You for our brothers and sisters who, because of Your redemptive love, share together in the work of furthering the kingdom of God. Thank you for those who see a need and are quick to respond. We also know of those who see the need but feel inadequate for the task. Would You empower and embolden them to take a step of faith by moving in the direction You’re leading to the point of commitment. We’re mindful of Tychicus’ example of faithfulness in his duties and his loving spirit toward Paul and his fellow servants. We also want to be faithful in our thoughts, our conversation, and our duties this day.  We pray to You through Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

GREATLY BLESSED, HIGHLY FAVORED, IMPERFECT BUT FORGIVEN CHILD OF GOD-
