Saturday September 21, 2013 thought for the day

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS FOR TODAY
1-The only proper foundation for optimism is the redemptive work of Jesus-
2-No Christian should be a pessimist-
3-Don't place your hope in favorable circumstances but rather in Jesus and his promises-
4-Thinking of heaven leads to the pursuit of holiness-
5-Sin lives off what is good-

STRANGE THOUGHT-Why don't traffic signal lights ever seem to burn out?

I'VE LEARNED-God trains you.  He shows you how you can stay on the path he has for you-

DID YOU KNOW-Penguins do not tip over when an airplane flies over them-

5 THINGS I WANT TO KNOW
1-A thought to consider-To what degree are you willing to go to protect what is important to you?
2-Does being Christlike mean being tolerant of others?
3-Why does the church have a bad record of policing its own?
4-What is crucifying the sinful nature"?
5-How radical would it be if "everything the Lord has said we will do"?

BIBLE TRIVIA-Who was absent when the risen Jesus appeared to  the apostles?
Today's answer-Thomas  John 20:24

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY    Acts 19:1-7
19 While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul was visiting some places on the way to Ephesus. There he found some followers and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”
They said, “We have never even heard of a Holy Spirit.”
So he asked, “What kind of baptism did you have?”
They said, “It was the baptism that John taught.”
Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of changed hearts and lives. He told people to believe in the one who would come after him, and that one is Jesus.”
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Paul laid his hands on them,[a] and the Holy Spirit came upon them. They began speaking different languages[b] and prophesying. There were about twelve people in this group.

Footnotes:

  1. 19:6 laid his hands on them The laying on of hands had many purposes, including the giving of a blessing, power, or authority.
  2. 19:6 languages This can also be translated “tongues.”
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying man Father, our ability to work is a blessing. The drive and dedication to be a good worker, rather than one who does as little as possible to draw a paycheck, is pleasing to You and a testimony to others. We are further motivated because You give us a healthy mind, strong bodies and a desire to provide for our own. In addition we are spurred on to help others who are truly in need and joyfully give of our resources to help provide for them. We pray for those seeking employment but have found one door after another closed. Provide for their needs, open doors for employment and grow them in ways they never imagined during this dry season of their lives. We delight in doing Your will; we joyfully contribute to the needs of others; and we seek to positively influence those around us. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

TODAY WILL NEVER COME AGAIN. BE A BLESSING. BE A FRIEND. ENCOURAGE SOMEONE. TAKE TIME TO CARE. LET YOUR WORDS AND ACTIONS HEAL AND NOT WOUND.
