Wednesday August 7, 2013 thought for the day

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS FOR TODAY
1-Happiness does not come from doing easy work but from the afterglow of satisfaction that comes after the achievement of a difficult task that demanded our best-
2-It is a fatal mistake to assume that God's goal for your life is material prosperity or popular success as the world defines it-
3-The "abundant life" has nothing to do with material abundance-
4-The only limits to your realization of tomorrow will be your doubts of today-
5-When Jesus called Peter to step out of the boat and walk to him across the water, it was a call to voluntarily give up the security of the boat for the insecurity of walking in rough water-

STRAGE THOUGHT-Why doesn't glue stick to the container?

I'VE LEARNED-Men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by those with  the smallest minds.  Think big anyway!

DID YOU KNOW-The acorn woodpecker leaves its food sticking out of the holes it's drilled in oak trees, making it easy for squirrels and jays to help themselves-

5 THINGS I WANT TO KNOW
1-When did church leaders first agree on a list of new testament books?
2-Why was there disagreement on what should be included in the new testament?
3-What is the "New Covenant" that God said he would make with the Jewish people?
4-Why did Jesus resurrection, a major miracle, fail to convince most Jewish people that he was the Messiah?
5-On what basis were the 27 books of the new testament chosen to be a part of the new testament?

BIBLE TRIVIA-Who succeeded Judas Iscariot as an apostle?
Yesterday's answer-James   Acts 12:1-2

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY    Acts 13:20-25
“After this, God gave them judges until the time of Samuel the prophet. 21 Then the people asked for a king, so God gave them Saul son of Kish. Saul was from the tribe of Benjamin and was king for forty years. 22 After God took him away, God made David their king. God said about him: ‘I have found in David son of Jesse the kind of man I want. He will do all I want him to do.’ 23 So God has brought Jesus, one of David’s descendants, to Israel to be its Savior, as he promised. 24 Before Jesus came, John[a] preached to all the people of Israel about a baptism of changed hearts and lives. 25 When he was finishing his work, he said, ‘Who do you think I am? I am not the Christ. He is coming later, and I am not worthy to untie his sandals.’

Footnotes:

  1. 13:24 John John the Baptist, who preached to people about Christ’s coming (Luke 3).
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying man Father, we marvel at the miracles Jesus performed, as recorded in the New Testament. Taking a young boy’s small lunch and feeding 5,000 men along with their wives and families is beyond our imagination. And then to have leftovers from such a setting is amazing. Just as the disciples and the crowd learned so much about Jesus through His feeding of the crowd we too learn that nothing is impossible with You. We also learn from this story that You are a resourceful God when Jesus instructed that the leftovers be collected rather than tossed. Help us to be good stewards of all that You provide for us showing us how to be creative and generous toward others as well. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
