Thursday August 1, 2013 thought for the day

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS FOR TODAY
1-Small victories lead to larger ones-
2-Partial obedience is worse than total disobedience because it involves self deception-
3-God had sent an angel to stop Abraham from sacrificing his son Isaac yet was willing to let his son be sacrificed-
4-The resurrection is the cornerstone of the Christian faith-
5-The beatitudes are not a promise of comfort and success in the world.  Instead they are an assurance in the middle of discomfort and failure, an urging to press on, humbly serving God and others, even when it hurts-

STRANGE THOUGHT-People are illogical, unreasonable and self centered.  Love them anyway-

I'VE LEARNED-We need to forget what might have been-

DID YOU KNOW-The everglades kite bird in Florida, will only eat apple snails.  The kites are becoming rare because as the everglades dry up, the apple snails are dying out-

5 THINGS I WANT TO KNOW
1-Is the act of taking communion a ritual?
2-Did the disciples gathered with Jesus for the passover meal understand Jesus talking about the bread and wine being his body and blood?
3-What is a sacrament?
4-There is a difference in the understanding of what the bread and wine are when Christians partake of it.  Which is correct and does it matter?
5-Why are there so much differing opinions to many biblical subjects?

BIBLE TRIVIA-What did John the Baptist tell the tax collectors who came to him for baptism?
Yesterday's answer-    Matthew 3:13-15

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY    Acts 13:1-3
In the church at Antioch there were these prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon (also called Niger), Lucius (from the city of Cyrene), Manaen (who had grown up with Herod, the ruler), and Saul. They were all worshiping the Lord and fasting[a] for a certain time. During this time the Holy Spirit said to them, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul to do a special work for which I have chosen them.”
So after they fasted and prayed, they laid their hands on[b] Barnabas and Saul and sent them out.

Footnotes:

  1. 13:2 fasting The people would give up eating for a special time of prayer and worship to God. It was also done sometimes to show sadness and disappointment.
  2. 13:3 laid their hands on The laying on of hands had many purposes, including the giving of a blessing, power, or authority.
PRAYER FOR TODAY

Praying manFather, we do extol Your work and praise You with our lips, with our voice and with our devotion to follow You all the days of our lives. We stop and consider Your great wonders and mighty works as we acknowledge You to be the Creator of all things. Your ways are perfect and beyond human understanding. It is all the more reason why we must rely on Your guidance and not lean on our own understanding. Today we acknowledge You in all our ways and ask You to direct our paths and increase our understanding in the name of Jesus.  Amen.

MAY YOU ALWAYS HAVE LOVE TO SHARE, HEALTH TO SPARE AND FRIENDS THAT CARE!
