30 When Jesus said this, they tried to seize him. But no one was able to touch him, because it was not yet the right time. 31 But many of the people believed in Jesus. They said, “When the Christ comes, will he do more miracles than this man has done?”

PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying manFather, we are amazed at Your creative process and marvel at the beauty of life. You knit us together in our mother’s womb and provided everything we had need of before our birth and have done so as well all the years we have lived following our birth. You will do so until You call us home and there we will lack for nothing as we receive the inheritance that is waiting for us which can never perish, spoil or fade. Thank You for giving us life and providing for all our needs; physical, material, relational, and spiritual. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Direct our footsteps according to Your Word so that we stay in pace with You, observing the yellow lights of caution, stopping at the red lights of danger, and staying within the confines of Your guardrails. As we do so we will not allow sin to dominate our lives or lead us astray. We pray for Your guidance in Jesus’ name. Amen.

66 After Jesus said this, many of his followers left him and stopped following him.
67 Jesus asked the twelve followers, “Do you want to leave, too?”
68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, who would we go to? You have the words that give eternal life. 69 We believe and know that you are the Holy One from God.”
70 Then Jesus answered, “I chose all twelve of you, but one of you is a devil.”
71 Jesus was talking about Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. Judas was one of the twelve, but later he was going to turn against Jesus.

Praying manGod, You are the only source of eternal life to whom I can cling. I am confident that You will be with me to the end of my life here on this earth. I am grateful for the many people who bring me support, encouragement and companionship from day to day. They are a source of joy as they enrich my life daily. But as I grow older I’m recognizing that nothing stays the same and much of what I came to rely on is no longer present. Losses of those people very dear to me and things once considered important mount up as I reflect upon the passing years. I find great comfort as I cling to the words of the 73rd Psalm, “Whom have I in heaven but Thee, and there is none that I desire on earth beside Thee. My flesh and my heart faileth but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Amen.

5 THINGS I WANT TO KNOW
1-Isn't it interesting that some of the people were critical of Jesus until they needed him to do something for them?
2-Was Jesus' long days, large crowds and growing fame due to his meeting the needs of the endless lines of needy people?
3-Instead of doing all the miracles by himself, why didn't Jesus have the disciple do them while he was with them?
4-Did all the disciples do miracles after Jesus went back to his father?
5-Was the crowd more interested in Jesus' free food  than in his teaching?

BIBLE TRIVIA-What soldier led a revolt against King Elah, made himself king, and then committed suicide after a 7 day reign?
Yesterday's answer-Naaman  2 Kings 5:1

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY  John 6:60-64
60 When the followers of Jesus heard this, many of them said, “This teaching is hard. Who can accept it?”
61 Knowing that his followers were complaining about this, Jesus said, “Does this teaching bother you? 62 Then will it also bother you to see the Son of Man going back to the place where he came from? 63 It is the Spirit that gives life. The flesh doesn’t give life. The words I told you are spirit, and they give life. 64 But some of you don’t believe.” (Jesus knew from the beginning who did not believe and who would turn against him.)

PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying manFather, we are “richly blessed” when we call upon You to save us from our sins. You desire to share riches of eternal value with the redeemed. Far too many play around with the idea of surrendering their hearts. They think about it in certain settings or when influenced by believing Christians or persuasive Scripture. We pray that they would not just stand outside the door of the kingdom, but take the necessary steps to step inside the kingdom of God by confessing with their mouths and believing in their hearts that Jesus Christ is raised from the dead. When we truly believe and boldly confess we are changed from within and our actions from without. That’s the mark of the true believer. May our lives give evidence of Your redemptive work and boundless blessings. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Otherwise, you won’t have real life in you. 54 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day. 55 My flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood live in me, and I live in them. 57 The living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father. So whoever eats me will live because of me. 58 I am not like the bread your ancestors ate. They ate that bread and still died. Yesterday's answer-Uriah    2 Samuel 11:3

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY     John 6:41-45
41 Some people began to complain about Jesus because he said, “I am the bread that comes down from heaven.”42 They said, “This is Jesus, the son of Joseph. We know his father and mother. How can he say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”
43 But Jesus answered, “Stop complaining to each other.44 The Father is the One who sent me. No one can come to me unless the Father draws him to me, and I will raise that person up on the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets, ‘They will all be taught by God.’[a] Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me.

  1. John 6:45 ‘They . . .God.’ Quotation from Isaiah 54:13.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying manFather, just as we received Your Son, Christ Jesus as Lord, we continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as we were taught, and overflowing in thankfulness. May our words, our actions, and our thoughts be full of praise as we consider all that we have and choose not to dwell on that which we have not. Above every other blessing is the gift of Your Son, Jesus, who came into the world to save us from our sins. And the greatest gift yet to come is the inheritance that awaits Your faithful saints when we cross the stormy Jordan banks to our eternal dwelling in heaven. Our hearts are satisfied and filled with thankfulness to You. Amen

Saturday November 17, 2012 thought for the day

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS FOR TODAY
1-If you confer a kindness be silent, if you receive one speak about it-
2-The claims of Jesus are either true or they are extremely arrogant and delusional-
3-We become what we are committed to-
4-Christ likeness comes from making Christ like commitments-
5-The worst sadness is to go through life without loving but it is equally sad to go through life without telling those you love that you love them-

STRANGE THOUGHT-The trouble with bucket seats is that not everyone has the same size bucket-

I'VE LEARNED-Don't compare your life with others for you have no idea what their journey is all about-

DID YOU KNOW-In 1949, forecasting the relentless march of science, Popular Mechanics said computers in the future may weigh no more than five tons.

5 THINGS I WANT TO KNOW
1-When Jesus fed the 5,000 people, how much fish and bread did each person receive?
2-What happened to the 12 baskets of fish and bread?  Was it just hard crust and fish bones that were disposed of?
3-When Jesus fed the 5,000 people, why did Jesus make more of the fish and bread than was needed to feed everyone?
4-Did the disciples "pray, giving thanks" before eating?
5-Since most of the disciples were unlearned fishermen, how much of the coming "messiah" would they have known about?

BIBLE TRIVIA-What Hittite soldier was put on the front lines of battle so David could take his wife?
Yesterday's answer-Caleb    Joshua 14:6-13

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY    John 6:35-40
35 Then Jesus said, “I am the bread that gives life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. 36 But as I told you before, you have seen me and still don’t believe. 37 The Father gives me the people who are mine. Every one of them will come to me, and I will always accept them. 38 I came down from heaven to do what God wants me to do, not what I want to do. 39 Here is what the One who sent me wants me to do: I must not lose even one whom God gave me, but I must raise them all on the last day.40 Those who see the Son and believe in him have eternal life, and I will raise them on the last day. This is what my Father wants.”

PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying manFather, You are the Divine cardiologist who knows the very inmost part of my spiritual heart. People see only the outward person when I am proficient at presenting myself differently than the person I really am inside, but I cannot hide from You that which comes from my inward parts. You liken the heart to that which is the most central part of our emotions and character. I invite You to not only search my heart, but I ask You to remove the offensive contaminants such as jealousy, bitterness, disobedience, rage, or any other impurity that destroys my soul, for no one but You can heal all my soul’s diseases. *I praise You, Lord, for cleansing me from sin. Fulfill Your word and make me pure within. Fill me with fire, where once I burned with shame; grant my desire to magnify Your name. Amen.
                                                                                                                                                                                     (*V. 2 of “Search Me, O God”)

TODAY WILL NEVER COME AGAIN. BE A BLESSING. BE A FRIEND. ENCOURAGE SOMEONE. TAKE TIME TO CARE. LET YOUR WORDS AND ACTIONS HEAL AND NOT WOUND.
