Wednesday June 5, 2013 thought for the day

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS FOR TODAY
1-Christianity is more action on Monday than worship on Sunday-
2-Works do not save the Christian but works mark the Christian-
3-Out of the nature of their heart a person speaks-
4-A follower of Jesus has plenty of reasons for joyful living-
5-True godliness is seen in one's being and doing-

A STRANGE THOUGHT-Some people are about as helpful as a porcupine in a balloon factory-

I'VE LEARNED-From Jesus we learn all of God we need to know-

DID YOU KNOW-The cells that make up moose antlers are the fastest growing animal cells in nature-

5 THINGS I WANT TO KNOW
1-Did anyone get punished by Roman authorities for killing Stephen?
2-Did Stephen and Saul know each other or were they the ones debating each other prior to Stephen's stoning?
3-Some of the New Testament is written in Hebrew and some Greek, but why no other languages?
4-Are most devote religious people intolerant?
5-Was Jesus an intolerant person?

BIBLE TRIVIA-When Jerusalem fell to the Babylonians, what priest was taken prisoner to Babylon?
Yesterday's answer-Eli     1 Samuel 2:11

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY   Acts 6:8-11
Stephen was richly blessed by God who gave him the power to do great miracles and signs among the people. But some people were against him. They belonged to the synagogue of Free Men[a] (as it was called), which included people from Cyrene, Alexandria, Cilicia, and Asia. They all came and argued with Stephen.
10 But the Spirit was helping him to speak with wisdom, and his words were so strong that they could not argue with him. 11 So they secretly urged some men to say, “We heard Stephen speak against Moses and against God.”

Footnotes:

  1. 6:9 Free Men Jewish people who had been slaves or whose fathers had been slaves, but were now free.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying manFather, just as there are seasons throughout the calendar year there are seasons throughout our lives; many of them invigorating and celebratory, others wearying and dreaded. Yet it is both joyous times and dreaded occasions that shape us into Your image so that we bear the likeness of Your Son, Jesus Christ who endured great hardship. We are to fix our eyes on Him, who for the joy set before Him, endured the cross despising its shame knowing that without full obedience He could not offer full redemption for our sins. Help us not to become weary in carrying out the tasks required of us or the physical challenges common to these perishable bodies.  May we not interpret all of life in the “darkness of our suffering” but in the brightness of Your resurrected Son. In the “furnace of affliction” may we be found faithful in Your refining process. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

LIVE SIMPLY! LOVE GENEROUSLY! CARE DEEPLY! SPEAK KINDLY! LEAVE THE REST WITH GOD!!
