Saturday August 3, 2013 thought for the day

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS FOR TODAY
1-To not worry does not mean to not do anything about the situation-
2-If God needs to teach you real love, he will put you around unlovely people-
3-The highest appreciation is not in uttering words but to live by them-
4-To succeed you must exceed what is expected of you-
5-If you want to succeed, your education cannot end when you graduate-

STRANGE THOUGHT-If you are successful you will win false friends and true enemies-succeed anyway-

I'VE LEARNED-Things are usually not like the good old days and probably never were-

DID YOU KNOW-Domesticated turkeys  (farm raised) cannot fly-

5 THINGS I WANT TO KNOW-
1-Did you have to go through a learning process to become a Pharisee or did you become one by birth?
2-Did Jesus keep the Sabbath holy as commanded in the ten commandments-?
3-Why did Judas agree to betray Jesus?
4-Did Judas believe that Jesus would lead a Jewish rebellion against the Roman authorities?
5-Why did Jesus not respond "I am!" when asked by Caiaphus if he was the son of God?

BIBLE TRIVIA-Which epistles compare baptism to burial?
Yesterday's answer-Ephesians 4:5

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY   Acts 13:6-12
Barnabas and Saul, sent out by the Holy Spirit, went to the city of Seleucia. From there they sailed to the island of Cyprus. When they came to Salamis, they preached the Good News of God in the synagogues. John Mark was with them to help.
They went across the whole island to Paphos where they met a magician named Bar-Jesus. He was a false prophet who always stayed close to Sergius Paulus, the governor and a smart man. He asked Barnabas and Saul to come to him, because he wanted to hear the message of God. But Elymas, the magician, was against them. (Elymas is the name for Bar-Jesus in the Greek language.) He tried to stop the governor from believing in Jesus. But Saul, who was also called Paul, was filled with the Holy Spirit. He looked straight at Elymas 10 and said, “You son of the devil! You are an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of evil tricks and lies, always trying to change the Lord’s truths into lies. 11 Now the Lord will touch you, and you will be blind. For a time you will not be able to see anything—not even the light from the sun.”
Then everything became dark for Elymas, and he walked around, trying to find someone to lead him by the hand. 12 When the governor saw this, he believed because he was amazed at the teaching about the Lord.

PRAYER FOR TODAY
Praying manFather, as the slide to decadence deepens, we see the influence it has on the Christian church at large. Fearing rejection and mockery from the world or appearing as unsuccessful in the eyes of the world, many church leaders become accepting of the current philosophies and lifestyles prominent in our day, rather than holding to the unchanging standards prescribed through Your commands in Scripture. In the gray areas, help us to be gracious. But in the black and white commands of Scripture help us to be brave, strong and unambiguous in our position and consistent in our example as permissiveness, false prophesies, and weakened leaders dot the landscape. When seekers want the timeless truth of Scriptures rather than the changing truth of our times we will be prepared to guide them to Your eternal truths. Keep us faithful in doing so. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

TODAY WILL NEVER COME AGAIN. BE A BLESSING. BE A FRIEND. ENCOURAGE SOMEONE. TAKE TIME TO CARE. LET YOUR WORDS AND ACTIONS HEAL AND NOT WOUND.
